If what I have written here could be useful to others one day, if it could stop the judge who is ready to pass sentence, if it could save the unfortunate innocent or guilty from the suffering I am condemned to! A prisoner who learns that he has been sentenced to death begins to keep a diary in order to immortalize his experiences before his execution. In this short diary, he includes scenes from important moments of his life, what happened to him in his last days, his desperate efforts to hold on to life, and his last conversations with his little daughter who no longer recognizes him. This work, which tells the story of the enthusiastic crowds who come to watch public executions on one side and the smoothly functioning justice mechanism on the other side from the perspective of a prisoner awaiting his execution, is a literary opposition to the death penalty.
