Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881): His first novel Poor People attracted attention with its striking plot and different plot. He gained fame as an important writer with his power of displaying the depths of the human soul. However, his later published works did not attract much attention at the time. Dostoyevsky was arrested in 1849 on the grounds that he was a member of the Petrashevsky group that opposed the oppressive regime of Nicholas I. When he was about to be executed, his sentence was commuted to exile and compulsory military service. He regained his former fame with the novels he wrote after his Siberian exile. Notes from the Underground, published in the Vremya magazine in 1864, is about the inner conflicts and deliriums of a person who has isolated himself from the real world. This novel carries clues to the great novels that Dostoyevsky would later write.
